Supervision and team meetings: Using our guide to support your team

About this event 

Professionals working with children and families play a key role in protecting and supporting them when there are concerns about child sexual abuse. 

One way to build professional confidence in responding to concerns is by encouraging conversations around the latest research and evidence. Managers and supervisors can actively support this by making time for regular discussions, reflecting on, and sharing practice experiences and insights from victims and survivors in supervision and team meetings. 

Our Using supervision and team meetings to improve responses to child sexual abuse guide helps professionals start discussions about child sexual abuse within their teams in a supportive space, reflect on the experiences of children and families they are working with, explore their team’s and their own welfare, and consider how the evidence might inform and develop their practice. 

This guide shows how practice supervisors can best facilitate these discussions within individual and group supervision sessions, and in team meetings. It also explains how they can use a range of publications produced by the Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse (CSA Centre) – and particularly our ‘Key messages from research’ series – to support reflection and discussion. 

It helps managers and supervisors support professionals at all stages of their careers across the children’s services workforce, including those in child protection, working with children with disabilities, children in care, adult social care, youth offending, or early help. 

This one-hour session will introduce professionals to the Using supervision and team meetings to improve responses to child sexual abuse guide and gives an opportunity to use it in practice. It aims to build on professional confidence in responding to concerns. 

Both the guide and this webinar have been designed to support professionals across a range of organisations and agencies to improve responses to child sexual abuse.  

Who is this webinar for? 

This course is for practice supervisors in social care with line management, supervision or practice development responsibilities. it is also intended for practice supervisors in adult social care, whose team members may – possibly without realising it – be working with adult victims/survivors of child sexual abuse. It will also be useful for professionals with supervision or line management responsibilities in other organisations involved in safeguarding and supporting sexually abused children. 

The timings of the webinars have been selected to ensure that anyone, no matter their profession, should find a convenient time be able to attend. 

Who will run the webinar? 

This course will be led by an expert facilitator who has significant experience in working with children and families where sexual abuse is a concern, delivering webinars, and working within multi-agency safeguarding arrangements.
