Barnardo's Bristol BASE Hub and Spokes Project

Organisation:Barnardo's

At BASE they try to make sure that young people feel they are getting support that makes a difference to their lives. What young people do when they meet their worker varies from one young person to the next. Some young people will want to sit and talk about the problems they face; others will do activities with their worker; others may just want practical help initially before they feel ready to address the difficult experiences they have faced.

They are an assessment and intervention service for children and young people (aged 8 to 21 years) who are alleged to have engaged in sexually harmful behaviour. The service employs specialist workers from professional backgrounds in child protection, youth offending and psychology.  The purpose of assessment is to consider the level of concern with regard to the young person and their behaviour, within the family and wider community. Barnardo's Pan Dorset CSE

Organisation:Barnardo's

Barnardo's provide return home interviews and one-to-one work with children who go missing repeatedly, or for long periods according to assessed need. Through the return home interview they build trust and seek to understand why the child went missing and assess what follow-on support, if any, is needed to reduce the risk of future missing episodes. They engage parents in this process to boost their capacity to support their children from going missing again. The one-to-one model of work is based on the Barnardo’s four A’s approach (based on Barnardo’s published research), which has been proven to improve outcomes for children/young people who are abused/vulnerable to sexual exploitation.
