How can this resource help you?

Children display a range of common and healthy sexual behaviour at different stages of their development. If their behaviour is considered to be outside of this range, it may be called ‘harmful’ if it harms them or others

Like all forms of child sexual abuse, incidents of harmful sexual behaviour involving children and young people can feel challenging to respond to, so professionals must be equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to ensure they support the safety and well-being of all children affected.

In addressing this, our Safety Planning in Education guide provides practical support for those in education settings to respond to children’s needs and safety when incidents of harmful sexual behaviour occur.

 

The guide is split into two: Part A looks at the key actions for a school when an incident of harmful sexual behaviour has occurred, including a safety plan template for recording, and reviewing arrangements, and Part B focusses on broader practical advice such as how to communicate with children and their parents in these circumstances and an appendix with useful links and resources
