The second edition of the CSA Centre's practice guide designed to help professionals communicate with the children they work with in relation to child sexual abuse, including when they have concerns that such abuse is happening.

This resource introduces some of the key research and statistics on what is known about child sexual abuse: what it is, who harms children, where it takes place, the impact on children and crucially what we all can do in response.

Our 2023/24 report brings together data from children’s social care, policing, criminal justice and health, to build a picture of how agencies identify and respond to child sexual abuse and provide a unique insight into the changing trends in practice.

This guide for funders and commissioners of child sexual abuse services sets out the need for more – and more effective – funding and commissioning of child sexual abuse services, and signposts publications and interactive resources from the CSA Centre which can help readers understand the local need for those services and support them in meeting that need.

This guide shows how practice supervisors can best facilitate discussions about child sexual abyse within individual and group supervision sessions, and in team meetings. It also explains how they can use a range of publications produced by the Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse (CSA Centre) – and particularly our ‘Key messages from research’ series – to support reflection and discussion.

This review commissioned by the CSA Centre and Barnardo’s SEEN draws on 79 publications, based on 59 separate research projects, and four focus group sessions with African, Asian and Caribbean heritage academics, professionals and experts by experience. It explores the nature of sexual abuse, its impacts, the barriers that prevent children talking about it, and how concerns about it are identified and responded to, both within communities and by services. It recommends further research to inform and drive improvements.
