Welcome to an engaging day of presentations in partnership with the Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse.
Today’s presentations will help you and your colleagues learn more about identifying and responding to child sexual abuse, and working confidently with children and families. Throughout the day we will signpost you to useful guidance and resources to help you give victims, survivors and families affected by child sexual abuse the support they need. Our resources
The Scale and nature of child sexual abuse
To tackle child sexual abuse, we need to properly understand its causes, scope, scale, and impact. In our second keynote presentation, Nici Evans and Sharron Wareham will discuss the Welsh Government’s 10-year child sexual abuse strategy, and the latest trends in official data on child sexual abuse from our 2026 report.
Data Insights Hub
Delve deeper into local data from across North Wales using the Data Insights Hub. This online dashboard allows you to see official data from local children’s services and the police at a national and local level, and see up to date estimates of the prevalence of child sexual abuse in your area.
Child Sexual Abuse Response Pathway
In keynote three, Dr Natasha Sabin will introduce you to the Child Sexual Abuse Response Pathway – our interactive online resource for professionals working with children to help understand the steps you need to take to best respond to them and their families.
Signs and Indicators
Paul Burnside will introduce the Signs and indicators template, our resource which enables professionals to confidently build a picture of their concerns around child sexual abuse. The workshop will include an opportunity to use the template and to consider how it can be used effectively in practice.
Communicating with children
We know that professionals and children face many barriers in talking about sexual abuse. Dr Natasha Sabin will introduce the Communicating with children guide is designed to help anyone who works with children recognise when something maybe wrong and understand how to give children the confidence to communicate what is happening to them.
Safety planning in education
Education professionals are managing an increasing number of concerns about harmful sexual behaviour– sexual discussions or acts, involving children and young people, that are inappropriate for their age or stage of development. Lorraine Myles will show how to support children using the Safety planning in education guide.
Supporting parents and carers
Nici Evans will introduce delegates to the Supporting parents and carers guide, the CSA Centre resource offering guidance on how best to support parents in a range of different contexts of child sexual abuse in order to support their child.
Managing risk and trauma
Shauna Breen will present on how our Managing risk and trauma after online sexual offending guide provides practical advice for professionals on safeguarding and supporting families at a time of great emotional distress when a parent has been arrested for online child sexual abuse offences.
Support available on the day – New Pathways
In Swansea, we will be joined by New Pathways: an organisation who provide specialist support for adults, children and young people who have been affected by rape, sexual assault or abuse.
Speak to them on the day to learn all about the service they officer to those affected by child sexual abuse, and feel free to have a supportive conversation with them if you have been impacted by any of the subjects raised during the presentations and workshops.
Guest Organisations
In addition to our speakers and presentations, we will also be joined by a number of other statutory and voluntary sector organisations who operate in South Wales and can support you in responding to child sexual abuse. You can visit their stands during breaks between presentations to have conversations about their work and how it can support you.
