Improving support for parents and carers
The CSA Centre’s research programme aims to understand the support needs of non-abusing parents or carers of children who have been sexually abused.
Discovering that their child has been sexually abused can have a profound effect on a non-abusing parent or carer, impacting both their own wellbeing and their ability to support their child through recovery.
Research shows that parents and carers are key figures in their children’s recovery after sexual abuse, yet they often face significant barriers togetting support themselves.
The CSA Centre’s Improving Support for Parents and Carers programme aims to find out more about how parents are impacted by the sexual abuse of their child. The first report in this programme, The experiences and support needs of parents and carers of sexually abused children: A knowledge review, explores the existing research and resources in this area.
The review is designed to help professionals, funders, commissioners, and decision makers better understand the impact of abuse and support needs of parents and carers of children who have been sexually abused. Read and download the review below.
